From its core responsibilities and legal mandates, the SVGBS presently offers services in Standardization, Conformity Assessment, Metrology, Laboratory Testing, SQAM Information and Technical Assistance. Standardization, Conformity Assessment and Metrology, are used by business and government to optimize production, health, consumer protection, environment, security and quality. Their effective implementation supports sustainable development and social welfare, and facilitates trade.

Accordingly, the SVGBS creates and maintains a National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) on the pillars of Standards, Quality Assurance and Metrology (SQAM). The three pillars (SQAM) are vital for everyone as this infrastructure is necessary for sustainable development, and to enable developing countries to effectively participate in global trading as well as to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
