The general affairs of the SVGBS are administered by a Cabinet appointed National Standards Council, (NSC).  The members of this Council are appointed from the public and private sector with interest, qualifications and experience in fields relating to standards.

The NSC is the main policy organ and regulator of the SVGBS and its principal responsibilities are to determine and approve policy guidelines to ensure that the standardizations activities pursued by the SVGBS play a vital part in the development of the national economy.  The SVGBS presently operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, Industry and Labour. An Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations/administration of the Bureau of Standards. The present staff compliment is 20.
